Evoluon’s new owners respond to criticism

The Evoluon’s new owners, Hurks/Foolen & Reijs Vastgoed, announced they are getting started on the responses on their plans for the Evoluon.

After the announcement of the plans, quite a lot of reactions came in. Eindhoven residents are afraid there will be so much new construction around the iconic building that the Evoluon will not be very visible anymore. There was even an online petition launched against the new construction.

The Evoluon was sold by Philips at the end of last year. In the plans, besides the renovation of the Evoluon, new construction around the park is also included. In a written response, the new owners state that the visibility of the building is important to them too.

Hot spot

“The Evoluon must become a new hotspot that is in line with developments in Eindhoven”, the statement says. “This applies not only to the Evoluon itself but also to the park.” The park is to be a public area where both sustainability, as well as art, have a place.

A new to-be-established foundation, the Evoluon Foundation, will be responsible for the implementation of programming. The Foundation’s Board has not yet been formed. The renovation of the building will start in the summer of 2021. The Evoluon Foundation will examine whether new activities can be scheduled for earlier.
