Tongelre now also boasts a ‘Taalpunt’

In the Eindhoven neighbourhood of Tongelre, a new Taalpunt (Language Point) is being opened on Monday to combat low literacy.

At the Taalpunt, people who have literacy issues can receive help and support. Trained volunteers advise the De Akkers community centre. The Taalpunt’s aim is to lower the threshold for people with language problems. They are often ashamed and do not dare to come out.

A language point in the De Bennekel district was opened last week in the Gestel area. Visitors can visit the Dommel community center there.

Low literacy

Anyone who has difficulty with reading and writing, and also with understanding information fall under the low-literate group. Around 23,000 people from the age of 16 and older are part of that group.
