Mayor Brenninkmeijer of Waalre officiated the first marriage in the House of Waalre yesterday afternoon.
Marcel Kalkers and Chanda Seetaram, who won a contest last year to be the first couple married in the house, had their first date on Valentine’s day 25 years ago.
After the Town Hall of Waalre was completely burned out in a 2012 arson attack, the municipality built the House of Waalre on the site in 2017.
The new wedding hall is located in the fully-restored 1929 monument, which is part of the new building. On 2 January 2018, the municipality of Waalre relocated to the House of Waalre.
