‘We would like to do this more often, because we notice that it makes people very happy,’ says Ilse Cornelissen of the Van Abbe Museum.
She is referring to the classical works of art that can be seen temporarily in the Eindhoven museum.
The top art pieces attract many visitors. Last weekend 1315 people visited the ‘top 10 on tour‘. In a “normal” weekend, there are about 700 visitors.
‘Normally you have to travel far to see all those art pieces, now they can all be seen from close by’, one of the guests tells us. And that seems to be the opinion of most visitors. They do not get many opportunities to view the classic artworks so closely.
The museum had anticipated more popularity than usual, ‘but the number of visitors has exceeded our expectations’, says Cornelissen. ‘This traveling exhibition connects the ancient arts with modern art. If we can place classical art in the context of a modern museum, then perhaps we can do something with it more often, “she concludes.
The exhibition can be seen in the Van Abbe Museum until 28 January.
