Fontys Hogescholen’s pre-bachelor for refugee students is set to be expanded to include maths lessons.

The annual program helps prepare refugee students for university in the Netherlands. Following its successful launch earlier this year, a maths pilot at adult secondary level (VAVO) will be added to the curriculum.

The program is a joint effort between Fontys, VAVO Summa Eindhoven, and Tilburg VAVO Education Group. VAVO Summa will give pre-bachelor maths lessons in Eindhoven and Tilburg.

This year the lessons will be examined and evaluated with the aim of entering into a structural collaboration with VAVO as of the 2017-2018 academic year, and to augment the program with different course profiles.

The Foundation for Refugee Students (UAF) will assign each student a “buddy” to offer coaching and guidance and help focus on the students’ social integration.
