Private investigator held on corruption charges

Police have arrested a private investigator in connection with the case of an Eindhoven police officer suspected of corruption.

53 year-old P.I. van V. is suspected of owning a firearm and encouraging leaks of police data, De Telegraaf reports. Peter van V is known as a researcher for crime reporter John van den Heuvel’s RTL TV programmes Ontvoerd (Kidnapped) and Op de Vlucht (On the Run). This confirms that the person in question is van V.

John van den Heuvel praised van V’s work on his programmes. Furthermore, he will decide on future cooperation with van V as soon as the police investigation is completed. Van V owns a private investigation office in Eindhoven.

A 45-year-old policeman from Eindhoven was arrested on Monday morning on suspicion of leaking information. While it is not clear what exactly was leaked, the justice department confirmed that no current cases were affected.
