Quicker blood analysis results for Catharina Hospital

The Catharina Hospital houses a new device, which will enable quicker results from blood tests. The Virtuo can determine whether or not there are any bacteria in the blood about half a day faster.

Quick results are important, because the sooner bacteria are identified, the sooner treatment can be started. According to the hospital, this improves the survival rate of patients with severe infections.

As this device is faster than the ones used previously, the throughput goes up. In other words: more blood can be analyzed in the same period of time, so the capacity increases.

The blood culture appliance Virtuo was purchased by Pamm Foundation and is the first one in Europe. Pamm is the regional centre for infectious diseases and pathology in Southeast Brabant.
