‘Fraud with land purchases in Nuenen more extensive’

The land acquisition fraud in Nuenen is probably even more extensive than expected. According to the ‘Eindhovens Dagblad’ (Eindhoven Newspaper) even more cases have come to light in which the municipality eventually paid much more for the land than had initially been estimated.

Last week it became known that the municipality of Nuenen had been set back at least 4.7 million euros. This was the sum total of five land purchases in which the original valuation did not appear to correspond to the valuation that eventually ended up in the municipal archives. So there seems to have been some fiddling going on and too much money was paid anyway.
By now 41 cases have been examined and already ten of those are believed to be suspicious. Nuenen has been paying through the nose for this land and the amount of money they have lost is running up. However, according to the paper, the total sum is not known yet. An agency dealing with integrity issues is still investigating.
