Philips to develop a light transmissive carpet

Philips signed an agreement with Desso, a leading global carpets company from Waalwijk, to develop solutions that combine LED lighting with light transmissive carpet.

The LED light will provide a safety function, showing safety exits and routes. Rooms can also be designed orderly with carpets showing information where needed.

"The technology takes advantage of people’s tendency to be guided by the floor when moving through and interacting with space", says Philips Lighting’s Ed Huibers. "It brings information, direction, inspiration, and safety via the carpet you walk on."

Philips and Desso are already working on pilot projects. Next year, the product name will be revealed.
