BEST – The king is dead, long live the king! Monday was the three year anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death.
On this day worldwide many fans commemorate the death of their idol. Also in Best, at the statue of the King of Pop next to McDonald’s.Patrick Tieleman said that today dozens of fans will come to Best to remember. They come from The Netherlands and abroad. The group of die-hard fans who are here today consists of 30 to 40 people”, according to Tieleman. Today they come together by the statue to remember with each other and to share, listen to music, to sing together and … to dance together, just like the video clip Thriller.”I come here every month just to keep things nice”, says Patrick. Almost every week fans come to Best with flowers or personal messages which are left on the fence which hangs full with photos and cards.The statue was erected in 1996. Nelly van Gelder and her husband Peter, franchise owners of the McDonald’s in Best, purchased the statue at an auction for the Ronald McDonald house of contemporary pop music.Source: Eindhoven Dichtbij
