Tuesday, 26 June 2012

DEN BOSCH – Den Bosch and Helmond will give ten million for Brabant Cultural Capital 2018. The town councils from the cities voted in agreement on Tuesday.

The five large Brabant cities will together become a Cultural Capital in 6 years. It is the intention that each city will pay ten million euro and the province fifty million. A number of cities have serious doubts about this. The Den Bosch opposition was against the contribution of ten million. They believe it to be irresponsible during a period of economic crisis to contribute funds for what is being referred to as a party which will generate no return. The council from Helmond suggested as a condition that the total investment be used for cultural projects in Helmond. In 2018 The Netherlands and Malta may each contribute a Cultural Capital. Brabant just as Leeuwarden, Maastricht, Utrecht and The Hague are in the running.Source: Omroep Brabant
