The Israeli singer Mor Karbasi was born in Jerusalem, lived in London for five years and now resides in Seville, from which she is conquering the world stage with her special Sephardic repertoire. Karbasi sings in Ladino (also called Judeo- Spanish), the ancient language and music of the Spanish (and Italian and Portuguese) Jews, who fled in 1492 to the ‘Catholic kings’ of Spain. They settled in the Balkans, in present day Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa, where the language evolved. Mor Kabasi is of Moroccan Persian descent and has set herself the goal to keep the 500-year-old culture alive.
