A report shows that a large majority of local politicians think that publishing video images of an offence should not lead to a reduced sentence.
From the 1,733 surveyed local politicians, 91 per cent declared that the publishing of security images should not affect the severity of the punishment. The survey was conducted following the Vestdijk assault court case.
In that case, the offenders got shorter sentences because the images had been published on the internet and TV, harming the suspects’ privacy.
The Public Prosecution Service if happy with the survey’s results. It already appealed against the shorter sentence of main suspect Brent L.
