Running the half marathon with one leg might sound impossible, but Merijn Koek is determined to do it.

The paralympian was born with no hands and no lower right leg. To show disabled children that their disabilities shouldn’t hold them back, Merijn will take part in the Eindhoven half marathon in October.

There are around 10,000 children with a prosthesis in the Netherlands. These children need different, very expensive prostheses to walk and exercise, which means many don’t have access to this option. Merijn hopes to use the money he will raise to help with this.

Merijn is also working on the JUMP (JUnior Modular Prosthesis) project, which aims to ensure every child with a disability receives a prosthesis that will allow them to exercise.
