Never before have there been so many complaints received in one year about noise pollution caused by Eindhoven Airport.
In 2018, there were about 45,000 complaints. This is an increase of more than 50% compared to the previous year, according to figures from the Department of Defence, the Eindhovens Dagblad or ED (Eindhoven Daily Newspaper) reports. This noise was experienced especially north of the airport.
There were not only more complainants but also more local residents who regularly complained. A lot more complaints were received from Son, in particular. The same applies to Waalre and Veldhoven. The most nuisance was experienced in Acht and the Eindhoven suburb of Achtse Barrier. The Woensel North residents group, the Bewonersplatform, therefore, thinks the aeroplanes should take off more often in a southerly direction.
This year a decision must be taken about the growth of Eindhoven Airport. From 2020, there will be a new cap on the number of flights allowed. Currently, it is at 43,000 flight paths per year. Residents and environmental groups do not want any further growth. The airport and businesses see this differently. There are also growth scenarios of 55,000, 73,000 and 100,000 flights per year. A recommendation is being prepared, with input from residents, environmental groups, municipalities, and the airport. The final decision rests with the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management.
