On Tuesday, a second meeting takes place for locals living in the vicinity of Eindhoven Airport. The subject will be the airport’s plans to increase in size.
At the beginning of April, the municipality already organized a first meeting. The Eindhoven alderman Schreurs then indicated, he planned to organize a follow-up meeting, closer to the airport.
At the time, Eindhoven residents living around the airport already stated they wanted and needed more information about the airport’s ambitions to increase in size.
The current limit to Eindhoven Airport’s ambitions, are the number of flights per year. This is currently set at 43,000.
This limit will remain in force until next year. Before the current limit is set to expire, a decision must be taken about future plans and ambitions.
Three growth-scenarios proposed at the moment are an increase of 55,000, 73,000 or 100,000 flights per year. The alternative remains to keep the current limit in place.
This year, local residents, the airport and regional municipalities are going to negotiate about the the maximum increase in flights per year.
Local residents are unable to cope with increases of flights, due to the increase in air and noise pollution. However, Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, the Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, will take the final decision.
This important meeting is held tomorrow, Tuesday 15th of May, at 19:00 at the Novotel along the Anthony Fokkerweg.
