The Netherlands has been struggling with a flu epidemic for fifteen weeks, but the end is in sight.
From week 10 of 2018 the flu epidemic started to decline. There were 164 sick people per 100,000 inhabitants at that time, reports research institute Nivel. In week 13 there were 64 people per 100,000 inhabitants who suffered from the flu. A lot less, but still higher than the epidemic threshold of 51 per 100,000 inhabitants.
Emergency
In its heyday, the epidemic led to an emergency situation in the Eindhoven hospitals. The Catharina Hospital had to make reschedule surgeries and the St. Anna in Geldrop canceled its annual open day. Almost all beds were occupied due to the flu wave, and many employees were also affected by the flu.
