To help in the fight against this novel coronavirus strain, Signify will install 15 disinfection lamps.
This will be in the Philips Stadium and the PSV’s training facility, De Herdgang. PSV requested this. These Philips UVC disinfection upper air luminaires use, as the name implies, UVC light.
This type of light breaks down the DNA or RNA of micro-organisms such as viruses and bacteria. As a result, these organisms can no longer multiply. Scientific research shows that the lamps are effective.
“Together with Boston University, the company validated the effectiveness of UVC light sources in inactivating SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19,” reads a Signify press release.
In recent weeks, COVID-19 has severely affected PSV. A large number of players couldn’t participate for quite a while. The worst seems to be over now.
PSV Youth Squad and Women
This virus has seized hold of the PSV Youth squad too. A league game even had to be rescheduled because the team couldn’t gather enough players. The PSV Women’s team also had to be quarantined after an outbreak among them. That was before the start of the season.
To prevent the spread of the virus as much as possible, PSV asked Signify to install 15 UV-C lights. Six will be in the Philips Stadium’s changing rooms. Three in the home team’s dressing rooms and three in the visitors’ dressing room.
“Safeguarding player health is very important to us,” says Frans Janssen, Commercial Director at PSV. “It’s essential for matches to continue. That’s why we want to protect them, and the visiting players, to the best of our ability.”
There will also be five lamps in De Herdgang‘s changing rooms. Four disinfecting lamps will be installed in the medical area too. The lights can disinfect objects, surfaces, and indoor air. Exposure to UV-C light can harm your skin and eyes. The lamps will, therefore, be shielded.
