Dilay Willemstein was recently elected Miss World Netherlands. But she will not represent the Netherlands at the Miss World pageant in Puerto Rico. The 21-year-old model from Eindhoven refuses the vaccination against COVID-19 to travel to the competition.

A spokesperson for the Miss World Netherlands election confirmed the message on Tuesday evening. The number two of the pageant, Lizzy Dobbe from Den Helder, will now travel to Puerto Rico. The competition will take place in mid-December.

“I’m not ready to take the shot yet. I don’t feel good about it”, says Dilay Willemstein in an interview with the AD. Willemstein said she had not realised the need for the vaccination.

She has postponed the choice for a while: “But I like to look ahead. This door is closing, but new doors will open for me.” She previously stated that winning the competition was her lifelong dream.
