The Eindhoven University of Technology and the Catharina Hospital have developed a new photo acoustic technique.

With this technique, a narrowed carotid artery can be detected and treated early. This reduces the chance of a stroke.

The narrowing of the carotid artery usually gives no complaints and is therefore difficult to determine. In addition to the fact that with this new photo acoustics technique the narrowing can be seen clearly. The composition of the narrowing can also be determined.

An amount of 910,000 euros has been made available from the Jaap Schouten Foundation. This foundation supports research primarily focused on cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis and urological disorders.
