‘Handing in arms and ammunition in Eindhoven with impunity’

Handing in weapons and ammunition with impunity: that should be possible in Eindhoven if it is up to the city council. Different parties are submitting a motion on this together tonight.

It must be a campaign in imitation of the municipality of Rotterdam. There, residents could temporarily hand in their weapons without being fined or punished. And it yielded quite a bit: 262 weapons and 650 kilos of ammunition were collected there.

CDA, LPF, VVD, D66, GroenLinks, DENK, 50Plus and Schreurs will jointly submit a motion to persuade the city council to set up such a campaign in Eindhoven. Together these parties are good for 31 seats in the Eindhoven council, a large majority.

The parties believe that the campaign can help expel illegal weapons from the city. In addition, each weapon is one fewer, they reason. Certainly with the wave of robberies of earlier this year in mind, it will not be a superfluous campaign, the petitioners write in their motion.
