Korein stops using electric carrier bikes after fatal accident

Childcare organisation Korein will cease using electric carrier bicycles after a fatal accident in Oss on Thursday.

Parents were informed of the decision in a letter. In Thursday’s accident, four children were killed when a similar bike was hit by a train at a level crossing. An adult and another child were seriously injured.

Korein, which has many locations in the Eindhoven area, has been using the carriers – called stints – for a few years. It will now stop using them pending an investigation opened by the Dutch Safety Board.

The organisation stressed that all staff receive driving skills training before using the stints, and maintenance is carried out annually. Another transport solution is now being sought.
