Funny Brabant tradition: offering sausages to the nuns, to pray for good weather

Heeze – On Friday, August 17, Brabantsedag Heeze will keep an authentic tradition alive: sausages will be delivered to the (vegetarian!) Sisters Clarissen. Hopefully they will pray a novena for good weather on the last Sunday of August. That is the day of the Brababantsedag grand parade.

The task invariably is allocated to the newly appointed Board Members of the Brabantsedag foundation. Yearly they keep up this South Netherlands custom, so also this year the deputies will be making their way to the monastery coming. Although results from the past are no guarantee for the future, the annual gift is strictly adhered to – with, in addition to the fresh sausage from Heeze itself, an envelope with content – as compensation for a beautiful weather novena.

Hopefully the nine-day prayer to the ‘weather gods’ will make for a radiant parade day on Sunday, August 26th!
