Car thieves to be banned from parking garages

Car thieves may now be banned from parking garages in the city centre, in an effort to prevent increasing thefts.

The so-called Individual Denial Parking Garages (IOP) is a new anti-theft measure introduced by the police, working in collaboration with city garage owners.

The municipality and police signed an agreement on Monday with the city’s P1 and Q-park garages. The ban will be enforced in the same way as regular bans.

Depending on the offense, car thieves and other petty criminals will receive a warning and a ban for up to 6 months. More serious offences will be punished with an IOP lasting from 3 months up to 5 years, which can be applied to all garages involved.
