EMTÉ open new store on Mathildelaan

Supermarket EMTÉ opened a new store on Eindhoven’s Mathildelaan today, at the former Philips Lighting office complex.

One of the largest EMTÉ branches in the Netherlands, the new store spans 1,400 square metres of floor space and will employ 60-70 people.

According to EMTÉ, the chain hopes to attract more and more customers in the future as Eindhoven’s inner-city population grows. With a customer base largely comprised of single-person households, the new store will sell a lot of convenience items such as ready meals.

The former Philips site is currently being redeveloped under a contract with Eindhoven property management duo Foolen and Reijs, with rental and owner-occupied apartments as well as shops and a public park.

EMTÉ is the fourth supermarket to open in the centre of Eindhoven. Others include the Spar on Vrijstraat and Jan Linders on Tramstraat. It is EMTÉ’s 135th store in the Netherlands.
