Wilgenhof nurse at sentencing today for administering overdose

According to Omroep Brabant (Brabant’s broadcasting company), a nurse of the Vitalis Wilgenhof care centre in Eindhoven, will be sentenced today for administering an overdose of insulin to an elderly resident of the care centre.

The nurse administered the overdose of insulin to the elderly resident of Wilgenhof, on October 2012. As a result, the elderly woman went into a coma. The court had investigated the incident for a number of years.

The nurse was initially apprehended and charged with suspicion of attempted homicide. Presently, however, she is charged with reckless medical treatment, leading to grievous bodily harm.

The Public Prosecutor’s Department demanded eighty hours of community service and a- one year conditional prison sentence. The nurse’s lawyer pleaded for an acquittal.
