Young immigrants applying to local education establishments are faced with a long waiting list, Eindhoven Alderman Jannie Visscher has said.
Status holders take classes at School23, at Eindhoven’s Summa College. The school offers support to young people learning the Dutch language. Immigrants from the suburbs in particular are waiting for lengthy periods before starting lessons. Currently suffering a shortage of teachers and places, School23 does not have the resources to accept every applicant.
The PvdA (Labour Party) has asked the college to address the issue. Alderman Visscher will meet with school boards and regional municipalities to discuss solutions for cutting the waiting list. The alderman hopes to resolve the problem by the end of the Carnaval holiday.
