Escalators train station turned off during morning rush hour

The escalators in the rebuilt Eindhoven Train Station will remain, for the time being, turned off, during the morning rush hour. The renewed passengers tunnel cannot yet handle the constant flow of passengers. The tunnel is presently just half open and that causes the problems.

The escalators keep moving constantly. Therefore, passengers are unable to choose a less busy moment to enter the tunnel. According to Prorail’s message to ED (Eindhoven’s daily newspaper), turning the escalators off, will enable a better flow of passengers.

The entrance to the escalators is not blocked. They can still be used as a manual staircase. After 09:00 hrs, the escalators will be turned on again.

During the summer of 2016, the tunnel should be completely ready for optimal use. The new tunnel will be twice as wide as the old tunnel.
