Trust solution Muziekgebouw shrinks

Opposition parties in the Eindhoven city council no longer have confidence in elimination of the financial deficits at the Muziekgebouw (music building) without the community stepping in.

That was the outcome of a discussion at City Hall Tuesday night.

The fractions of the CDA, VVD and Leefbaar (livable) Eindhoven have run out of patience. They find it takes too long for a solution to the financial problems at the Muziekgebouw is found.

VVD and CDA therefore suggested to release some of the cash reserves of the city for the music institution, but Alderman Torunoglu doesn’t want to hear of it.

Torunoglu believes that the Muziekgebouw must try to find a solution. There is still time till January, if nothing happens the Muziekgebouw is then heading off for bankruptcy.

The councilor believes the music hall together with the municipality will find a solution before January for example to attract more sponsors or to save business costs. That search will be without Tiny Sanders, who resigned this week as chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Muziekgebouw. He has no confidence in the Eindhoven College in addressing the problems. The college is now discussing with the other commissioners.

The Muziekgebouw has accumulated a deficit of some one and a half million euro. Every year, the institution has six hundred thousand deficit.
