The number of applications are increasing at Stichting Leergeld, a foundation dedicated to support children from families with financial difficulties.

In 2014 more than 1090 families have been offered a grant from Stichting Leergeld, 160 more families than the year before. Thus, a 17% increase compared to the previous year.

For several years the number has risen sharply mainly due to the economic crisis. Stichting Leergeld saw new groups like the self-employed or single working parents.

Stichting Leergeld started with a 30.000 euro grant from the municipality, in 2014. That amount will be increased in the coming years, to 75,000 in 2018. In addition, the organization also receives budget from church organizations, individuals and businesses.

Families get aid and financial support from the foundation for for example the parental contribution, a school trip, sports kit or school camp.
