TU/e student wins prize with robot

A TU/e student wins the Tata Steel Student Award for designing a surgical robot. The student, Jordan Bos, receives 5,000 Euros.

Bos designed a robot that helps placing implants in the inner ear, enabling deaf people to hear again.

It involves complex and rather dangerous surgery, because the area is so small and close to many nerves. The robot reduces the risk.

Friday, Bos will receive his prize in Haarlem. It might take another year before the robot is launched, because it needs to be tested thoroughly.
