Tsegay wins Eindhoven marathon

Yemane Adhane Tsegay won the 30th Eindhoven marathon today. The Ethiopian finished in 2:09:11.

Tsegay was this year’s favourite. Compatriot Worku came in second, 8 seconds behind the winner. He was shaken off by Tsegay in the last few kilometres.

The organization had hoped for a new world record, but it rained too heavily in Eindhoven for that to happen. The current world record of 2:03 was set by Kipsang.

Patrick Stitzinger was the best Dutchman. Andrea Deelstra was the first Dutch woman and finished second.

Around 19,000 runners participated in the race this year. Also, minister of Health, Welfare and Sports Schippers visited the Eindhoven marathon today.
