Crane partially collapses near Eindhoven train station

Yesterday, part of a crane broke and hit an overhead contact line at the train station.

The crane arm broke right above the building site at the city centre side of the station. Nobody got hurt.

Rail traffic was interrupted to and from Eindhoven station because of the accident. Hundreds of passengers were stranded in Eindhoven. Shuttle services were provided.

Partial service was restored last night, but traffic is still not back to normal today.

The owner of the crane rental company Van Riel says the crane had been tested two weeks ago. Cause of the accident seems to be either a structural defect of metal fatigue.
