Church bell ‘made in Brabant’ installed in Notre Dame

PARIS – It weighs 6 tonnes, has a diameter of 2 meters and will be hanging in Paris’s Notre Dame in March.

The big bell Marie from the bell foundry Eijsbouts in Asten. Last Saturday, it was blessed in Notre Dame. During a large ceremony the bell received the blessing to ring as of 23 March in the south tower of the cathedral.New bells are being installed, celebrating the 850 years of the Cathedral’s existence. Joost Eijsbouts himself rang the bell for the first time. “It was a very special moment. Along with the Cardinal of France, the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg and two children I was given this privilege.”“The church was filled to the brim with people.
