Eindhoven wants Intercity to Germany

EINDHOVEN – A direct train connection between Eindhoven and the German cities of Düsseldorf and Aachen is necessary in about six years, according to Alderman Helms.

He is engaged in a discussion with the Ministry, the NS (Dutch railways) and the German government in the hopes of advancing this project. According to Helms this is extremely important for the development of the regional economy. Currently, there is no direct connection to the German cities, resulting in many delays.Helms claims there are many obstacles before the Intercity can be realised. Amongst other things, the rails must be expanded in Germany. Financially, a lot of work needs to be done as well. The cost of realising a direct connection to Düsseldorf alone is €44 million.
