Beatrix abdicates

EINDHOVEN – Monday, Beatrix announced that she will pass the crown to her son Prince Willem-Alexander, who will become king on the 30th of April of this year.

Queen Beatrix is also the baroness of Eindhoven.A few comments from Eindhoveners: Pieter van den Hoogenband, three-time Olympic swimming champion, to ANP: “Queen Beatrix has always shown an authentic interest in our performances. You could tell that she was up-to-date on everything. Not only with me, but with everyone.”Alderman Joost Helms (VVD) has respect for the head of state because she has worked until she was 75 years old.Just two months ago, Queen Beatrix visited Eindhoven and Helmond. She received the Slovakian president and visited the Automotive Campus, the Van Abbe museum, as well as the High Tech Campus amongst others. The Queen also enjoyed her visits to the international Horse Show.As a tribute to Her Majesty, the station’s Houwen’s Vlaaien sold their pies for next to nothing on Monday. Seven hundred and fifty pies were sold for only 75 cents each.
