HELMOND – Helmond Mayor Jacobs won’t react to KNVB’s (Royal Dutch Football Association) request sent to minister Spies to summon him, a municipality spokesperson said on Tuesday.

According to a municipality spokesperson, the mayor offered his apologies on the town’s website last Saturday and wants to leave it at that. Last Friday, the mayor ‘liked’ a picture showing a cattle-truck as Ajax’s team bus on his Facebook wall, causing some commotion. The football association decided to send a letter to the minister because the KNVB does not approve of the mayor’s behavior. The association thinks it was very inappropriate. “A mayor holds an exemplary position and has to act accordingly “, said an association’s spokesperson to Omroep Brabant on Monday. The Ministry of the Interior announced that the letter was received on Tuesday. Minister Spies is expected to react in the course of the week.Source: Omroep Brabant
