Pink Floyd’s drummer, Nick Mason, is coming to the Muziekgebouw with his superb band, Saucerful Of Secrets. The evening is all about Pink Floyd’s old music.

Mason has put together his band from big names in the music world. Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd), Gary Kemp (Spandau Ballet), Lee Harris (Talk Talk), and Dom Beken (Transit Kings) will accompany him on stage. They will only perform tracks from the Pink Floyd’s early albums.

The concert will take place on Sunday, 31 May 2020, in the Muziekgebouw. Presale tickets go on sale today.

Two Beursgebouw events cancelled

0

Two major events in the Eindhoven Beursgebouw have been cancelled. The reason? The organiser is ill.

It concerns the Winter Ibiza Festival and the Schlager Festival, on Friday, 13 December, and Saturday, 14 December.

“Due to personal circumstances and under urgent medical advice, we have decided to cancel the Schlagerfestival. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to plan a replacement date at the Beursgebouw’, the organiser writes.

It is not yet clear what will happen next.how to proceed. It is, therefore, difficult to plan a new date, since the Beursgebouw will close at the end of this year.

Christmas dinner for 200 lonely elderly people in Philips Stadium

0

A Christmas dinner for lonely elderly people will take place in Philips Stadium at the end of the year.

GGzE, the Eindhoven branch of the Dutch Association of Mental Health and Addiction Care, is organising a five course dinner for the guests. It will be the fifth edition of the event, and the second time it will be held in Philips Stadium.

GGzE is asking for donations to help make the event possible. They estimate that the dinner will cost €30. Thanks to the work of volunteers and several corporate sponsors, the organisers are able to keep the costs low.

Currently, around €1,500 has been raised, though the total costs are expected to reach €6,000.

In previous years, interest in the dinner far outnumbered the number of places available.

Pro and anti Zwarte Piet protests at Sinterklaas parade

0

Supporters and opponents of Zwarte Piet will get their own spots to demonstrate on Saturday, at Sinterklaas’ arrival in Eindhoven.

The Kick Out Zwarte Piet (KOZP) and Eindhoven Kan Het (Eindhoven Can Do It) activists will get a spot at the Kanaaldijk-Noord/Tongelresestraat intersection. Zwarte Piet’s supporters will about 300 meters away. These are members of people of Pegida. All this is not far from the place where Sinterklaas and his Pieten are to arrive by boat. They will come in on Kanaaldijk, just outside the ring road.

It is expected that KOZP and Eindhoven Kan Het will be 25 to 30 strong. Pegida expects about 200 protestors, according to the Municipality. The Municipality has also granted a demonstration request for ‘Sinterklaasfeest als traditie’ (‘Sinterklaas Festival as a tradition’). This group will be on the corner of Doctor Cuyperslaan and Winston Churchilllaan on Saturday.

In the days before the Sinterklaas’ arrival, on Wednesday and Friday, there will also be two demonstrations. Wednesday is Pegida’s turn; on Friday the ‘Eindhoven Maintains Zwarte Piet’ group takes to the streets. It is not yet known where these two demonstrations will take place.

Freedom of speech

Mayor John Jorritsma says that he wants to give the activists space, in the interest of freedom of speech. However, he is imposing conditions on the demonstrations. These conditions are to prevent similar riots to those of last year. Then, KOZP members were pelted with cans of beer. A policeman was also assaulted, and 16 pro-Zwarte Piet demonstrators were arrested.

One of the conditions set by Jorritsma is that demonstrators stay at their designated area. Also, the action groups must provide supervisors themselves. These people have to ensure things do not get out of hand. The groups must let the police know if disturbances threaten to occur. Furthermore, KOZP and Pegida are not allowed to attach thick sticks and rods to banners.

The parade’s organisers decided to no longer include Zwarte Piet as of next year. This year there will still be Zwarte Pieten at the Eindhoven Sinterklaas parade.

New city poet wanted

0

Who will become Eindhoven’s new city poet? At the end of January, the current city poet, Jessica Bartels, will hand over the baton to a successor. Potential poets have another month to sign up for this competition.

Eindhoven’s city poet holds the position for two years. The intention is that the city poet will regularly write and recite poems at important events in the city.

To be able to participate, poets must submit three works – one on Groot Eindhoven’s centenary, one about the future of the city and an own piece of work. A jury chooses the best four poets who will end up in the final round. The poems must, of course, be in Dutch.

New poet to be chosen in Jan

In the final, the four works have to be presented to the public. The audience will be allowed to give their opinion of the poets. In the end, a professional jury decides who wins. The final will be held on Thursday, 30 January, at the Natlab. Here the next city poet will also be announced.

The works, along with a short CV and motivation can be sent to f.vbragt@bibliotheekeindhoven.nl. The deadline for entries is 15 December 2019. People can get more information from the Eindhoven Library.

‘Regular citizens’ show light art for the first time during GLOW 2019

0

For the first time, non-artists at GLOW will also have the opportunity to present their own lighting projects.

The name is called GLOWlabs. It concerns five places along the route of the Eindhoven light art festival. Here ‘normal’ inhabitants of Eindhoven and companies can exhibit light installations. An example is the GGzE, which has developed a light therapy project in conjunction with citizens. “GLOW is for everyone. With these labs we want to show that not only the established artists can have an exhibition, but also the residents of Eindhoven,” says a spokesperson for GLOW.

Source of light

In the center of Eindhoven there will be work from about 35 light artists from home and abroad from Saturday. With the theme ‘The Living Colors’ this year, the organisation wants to delve deeper into the most important part of GLOW: light. This is how artists get started with ‘splitting light’ and looking for the source of light. It became clear earlier this year what the eyecatcher will be: a light show at the Witte Dame.

Number of visitors possibly up

Last year around 750,000 visitors came to the event. The organisation expects this number to be exceeded in the coming week. “That depends on the weather,” the spokesperson explains. Since the start in 2006, GLOW has seen a significant increase in the number of visitors. In the beginning year there were 45,000, so now there are three-quarters of a million.

GLOW starts this Saturday and lasts a week.
