Since Tuesday afternoon, a rainbow flag has been fluttering at City Hall. The Municipality has done this as a statement against the controversial Nashville statement.

The Municipality says that ‘everyone should always be able to be themselves and everyone is always accepted and should be able to feel safe. At school, on the street, at work, in care, in sports, in their own social circle or anywhere’.

The international Nashville statement describes how Christians must cope with faith, marriage, and sexuality. Many Orthodox Christians have signed the document.

The statement has received a lot of angry responses because it rejects homosexuality. Conservative Dutchmen, such as the Staatkundig Gereformeerde Partij (Reformed Political Party) chairman, Kees van der Staaij, also support the statement. He said the document is certainly not an ‘anti-gay pamphlet’.
