Mayor Van Gijzel has told Studio 040 that he has as yet no idea what he will be doing after September, when he resigns his post as Mayor. He intends to make a decision after that.
According to Van Gijzel, he has already been approached with offers for new positions, but has been advised by those close to him to wait before making any decisions. "Deciding about a new position now could lead to difficult situations, in which people might say ‘you’ve decided this or that because of your new position’ and I don’t want that."
Van Gijzel will be leaving in September. It was announced last week that his successor will be John Jorritsma. Van Gijzel says he is a good choice: he fits the profile previously drawn up, and Jorritsma has indicated that he intends to continue pursuing the city´s ambitions, in the area of technology, for example.
