Another Eindhoven Innovation: clothing from cow dung

Eindhoven Designer Jalila Essaidi has find a new solution for a global problem namely the overabundance of agriculturally produced manure. Using a new technique she can make plastic, textile and paper out of cow dung.

With this new technique therefore new products can be made. The designer presented her own clothing line named Mestic made with animal excrement.

The application ensures that something useful can be made with the overabundance of manure globally. The products which Essaidi makes can be re-used. In addition it could potentially replace more environmentally unfriendly production of clothing and plastics.

During the presentation yesterday of Mestic at de Philips Fruittuin (fruit garden) in Eindhoven both Prince Pieter-Christiaan Michiel and the ambassador for start-ups Neelie Kroes, amongst others, were present..

Essaidi has her own laboratorium at Strijp-T in Eindhoven, het BioArtLab. She is already well known for her bulletproof skin, for which there has been worldwide interest.
