Van Gogh’s Bronze Potato Eaters to become time capsule

The bronze statue of the Potato Eaters by Van Gogh, will become a time capsule. Anyone who would like to can add their name or picture or something else behind the artwork for future generations.

The entire installation will be put in a suitcase with a large glass plate covering it. The plan is to reopen the case in 2145.

This year is certainly not chosen by chance. While the case will be opened 130 years from today, it also happens to be 130 years since Van Gogh painted the ‘Potato Eaters’ in Nuenen.

The bronze statue of the Potato Eaters was created by artist Peter Nagelkerke. It has not yet been displayed in Nuenen as they are still looking for sponsors.

This time capsule is also a way to raise money. Leaving your name is free and can be done via a website. If you want to give a digital photo it will cost 50 euros and a printed photograph or something else of paper costs 100 euros. Basically, the majority of them go digital in the briefcase.

Names and stuff can be sent until July 14, 2015.
