New obesity centre for Catharina Hospital

The Catharina Hospital opened a new obesity centre yesterday afternoon.

The Eindhoven hospital already had a clinic for extremely obese people, but because the number of patients with obesity has almost doubled, a new and much larger centre was necessary.

The new clinic has its own entrance and is located near the parking lot. This way, patients will feel more at home and less stared at. In addition, the clinic provides much more space and employs a multi-disciplinary team of specialists. From obesity specialists and plastic surgeons to physiotherapists, dietitians and psychologists.

Patients can undergo surgery for their obesity in this clinic. After surgery they will be monitored and coached for five years to prevent relapse.

In 2012 more than 600 obese patients were treated in the Catharina Hospital, but this year the number is expected to rise to around 1100. The hospital offers a lot of expertise in the field of obesity, has received the predicate Centre of Excellence and is among the top three in the Netherlands
