Eindhoven no langer accepts wild animals in circuses

The Eindhoven City Council has decided that, from now on, only circuses without wild animals are welcome in Eindhoven. So, Circus Herman Renz will be the only circus allowed to visit the city in 2015.

The law prohibiting the use of wild animals in circuses nationally will not come into force before 1 January 2015. However, Eindhoven already wanted to send out a signal now. Furthermore, the city had to decide before 1 October which activities are to be included in next year’s events calendar.

Until 1 January, Eindhoven will make use of a regulation in the events policy ‘Gastvrij en Veilig’ (Hospitable and Safe), stipulating that Eindhoven prefers circuses without wild animals. Six more circuses did use wild animals, so they are no longer welcome in town.

There is room for two small and two large circuses in Eindhoven yearly, but the city has chosen not to make use of this possibility.
