A big fire broke out at Leenderheide, near Valkenswaard/Gastel/Leende and the Achelse kluis (Hermitage of Achel), Tuesday afternoon. The smoke cloud was visible in a large area. It is still unclear what caused the fire.
The fire department had already issued a drought warning earlier. The fire alert was received at 15.30 Hrs.The fire started near Gastel and nearly reached Achelse kluis. The strong east winds made the fire spread rapidly.Around 16.00 Hrs, the cloud of smoke became visibly smaller, but it was unclear if the fire was under control yet.
