Parrot park Veldhoven bankrupt

VELDHOVEN – The parrot refuge center in Veldhoven has been declared bankrupt on Tuesday. The court in Den Bosch made the announcement that same day. A liquidator has been appointed.

The park, located in Oerle, had been closed for several days already because of the problems. The park offers shelter to thousands of parrots and other (exotic) birds and mammals, also to parrots who became ill or who could no longer be taken care off by their owner. It was also the accredited shelter for animals seized by authorities. The park has been discredited several times over the past few years. Four years ago, the high mortality among parrots gave rise to commotion. Administrative problems were already identified then. Last year, employees accused the deceased founder and director Tonnie van Meegen of having stuffed his own pockets.
