Back End, exposition by Dries Depoorter in MU

0

What do privacy, artificial intelligence and digital connectedness have in common? They are all interwoven in the work of Dries Depoorter. In Back End he shows how boundaries can dissolved with a few simple interventions. This fascinating exposition runs from July 20 to September 23rd in MU, at Strijp S.

The exposition is very diverse, dynamic and interactive. It handles about relevant questions around how human creativity and machine learning, private and public, entertainment and morality all blend together. Anything can be linked and the actual connections are visible; the cables, the plugs, the way the software works. Depoorter’s play with technology, access and data analysis creates a sense of unease. Ten recent and new works will be on show in MU from 20 July until 23 September. “You can say they are critical… and, well, I think they are not entirely without humour”.

There is a huge variety of installation, machines, images that impact everybodies lives. So there is a lot to discover, learn, experience, questions will be answered and new ones will arise.. quite possible it may change your view on modern technology and use of data.

Visit Eindhoven’s “Versailles”

People interested in a lunch or dinner at Eindhoven’s “Versailles” are invited to join its owner during a few special days in October. Johan Vlemmix opens his house and even offers a tour around it; on specific dates.

Vlemmix owns a spectacular villa along Eindhoven’s Anthony Fokkerweg. It is locally known as the “Versailles” of Eindhoven. Vlemmix will offer a guided tour to guests, he told Studio 040: “I have no secrets, they can see everything, even the bedroom.”

The over-the-top Rococo villa was once built for entrepreneur Hans van den Heuvel. It still has all the characteristic and original details. These include an immense indoor swimming-pool complete with bar. Another “detail” is the fifties-style café: ‘Oud-Woensel’, situated in the basement.

Organization No Xcuse will host exclusive dinners on 19, 20 and 21 October. “I have to be honest, they came to me with this idea, but I liked it so much, I said yes right away,” says Vlemmix.

No Xcuse is also responsible for event “De Wielewaal Invites”. Readers of Eindhoven News know, this is the manor house which once belonged to Frits Philips. Last year, No Xcuse offered exclusive lunches and dinners at “De Wielewaal”. This year’s dates are listed on the company’s website.

Johan Vlemmix bought his period home at the Anthony Fokkerweg, when its first owner died. Now Vlemmix has put the house on the market. “Perhaps this will help me find a buyer”, he remarks.

Interested in an exclusive lunch or dinner? Visit the “No Xcuse” website.

PSV FANday, this saturday, and friendly match against Valencia

3

This Saturday, July 28, PSV will host its annual FANday. The day starts at 13.00 and hosts a great variety of activities for the entire family, in and around their Philips stadium. The day ends with a friendly match against Spanish topteam Valencia. The entire day is for free, except from the friendly match for which a modest entrance fee (5-15 euro), is required.

Already since the late 70-ies PSV hosts a FANday. This is a great possibility for the fans to meet the players and the staff, get autographs or pictures, but also for the team to meet the fans. Over the years the events has seen many different forms, settings and even locations. This year its combined with a very interesting friendly match, where PSV can see how well they are in shape to start the new season. So far the preparation has been successful, but not all players are back yet from their holidays, so they need all the practice they can get.

Apart from this high profile practice match, also many partners and sponsors present themselves, with football related activities, and some of the best esporters are present, and can be gamed against. There will be a formula 1 car, and you, or your kids can get a special PSV haircut. Well, all in all too much to mention, and very much worth checking it out.

Dutch Chili Fest on Strijp-S cancelled

0

The Dutch Chili Fest on Strijp-S is not going ahead this year.

This is what the organisation has written on its website. Too few sponsors were found and subsidies were not awarded in favour of the ‘very hot’ festival as well. Therefore, there will not be a party in Eindhoven where Carolina Reaper, Madame Jeanette or Habanero are central this year.

The organisation wants to keep the event free and accessible to everyone. That is impossible, due to the current financial situation. That is why the edition in September is not going ahead in the planned form. In 2019 a new date will be announced, as stated on the website.

There has been organised an alternative event: a smaller chili event in the Blue Collar Hotel on Strijp S. That will take place on Sunday, 9 September, 2018.

Mental health care forum with GGZ Eindhoven

GGZe, mental health care authority, is curious to find out the international point of view. On 1 October (2018), there will be an evening of discussing, listening and giving feedback on how mental health care is arranged and perceived in the Netherlands.

GGZe mental healthcare professionals like to meet the wider international public in this region to better understand what needs to be done to have their services better meet the internationals’ expectations.

The format of this meeting will allow a lot of time for you to give your input and share experiences or ideas of yourself. The professionals will mostly be listening and asking further questions.

Feel free to forward this link to others who could be interested.
The event is free of charge, but registration is required: send a mail to i.martens@sge.nl.

The initiative for this forum was taken by SGE International and Healthcare for Internationals (H4i). They work together with other healthcare providers to exchange knowledge and experiences, with the common goal to make Dutch healthcare better meet the needs of internationals.  Prior to this forum, their International Panel met with professionals of mental health care provider GGZ Eindhoven to learn about each other.

The event is Monday, 01 October 2018, from 20:00 to 21:30 at SGE head office, Strijp Z, Tilburgseweg-West 100, 5652 NP Eindhoven.

Event details here.

Free outdoor movies at the NatLab, Strijp S

0

The already vibrant Strijp S area, has another nice attraction this summer. During most weekends there are outdoor movie projections, in the NatLab patio, that you can attend for free. So you can pick your favorite movies from their program, and enjoy them while being surrounded by stars, on the big screen, and above you as well (and perhaps in the audience, who knows).

They will start on Friday July 13th with the Oscar winning movie Moonlight. Check the rest of their program, which is high quality and quite diverse, and make it in a great evening, perhaps combined with any of the other nice places and activities that Strijp S has to offer.

Playa D’evo luon, opened last weekend

0

Yes, you read it well, since July 7th there is an artificial beach at the Evoluon, including beachchairs and matching drinks menu. The entrance is free, the drinks, unfortunately, yet understandably, not. You can just come down and enjoy the sun and nice fine sand, find your beachchair and dream away.

Over the last decade the city beaches have grown in popularity, initially the bigger cities, but those days also many mid-sized cities started to create artificial beaches in the city. On pleasant locations, often close to a river, lake or other means of water they put some nice sand, lounge chairs and cool music, to create an holiday atmosphere. These ‘beaches’ have grown in popularity over the years.

Eindhoven started with this phenomenon last year at the Vestdijk, however the weather after mid-July didn’t really work in its favor. This year the Evoluon is making an attempt. Next to their pond the put white sand and beach chairs. Cocktails are available too.. however swimming in the pond there is unfortunately not allowed, as the water is not in a complete healthy condition. Nevertheless, if you are a beach-fan and holidays haven’t kicked in yet, its worth to check it out. Its open most weekends, whenever its above 21c, and lasts till begin of September

So whether you want to go to Brainport Beach, Strijp Strand or Philips Plage, wait for the sun to come out, and head for the Evoluon to relax on the white sand.
