A new regional project must ensure that 7 000 houses in the region are equipped with solar panels within two years.
This is a collaboration between twelve municipalities, including Best, Deurne, Eindhoven, Geldrop-Mierlo, Son en Breugel, and Waalre. The project aims to persuade residents to purchase solar panels. Many people still are not keen on them as getting started requires research and a significant amount of upfront investment.
In an attempt to prompt people, an attractive loan is being offered. The amount that homeowners have to pay back to interest and repayment each month is lower than their current energy bill.
The twelve municipalities, together, are closing a contract by means of a European tender, with a company that is going to install the panels and collect repayments. The municipalities are arranging the financing for the loans and, after 15 years the loan is paid off. The lifespan of the solar panels is at least 25 years, thus saving money for the homeowner on their energy bill.
With the project the municipalities want to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions. The new regulation comes into effect on Friday.
