Soon an Intercity to Düsseldorf

A major bottleneck in the future intercity route from Eindhoven to Düsseldorf is going to be resolved soon.

The German Traffic Minister, Andreas Scheuer, has given the green light for the doubling of the track between Venlo and Viersen, reports the WDR. He has presented a plan for several major rail projects in Germany. The amount of money the German ministry reserves for doubling the track is not yet known.

A few tracks of the Eindhoven-Dusseldorf route on the German side of the border are still single track. In 2025, the first intercity train will make that connection. This train will take 20 minutes off the current two hours of travel time. If the Venlo-Viersen track widening is realised, the journey would be another ten minutes shorter.
