The organisation of the festivities for Koningsdag (holiday for the Kings birthday on 27th April) will be in the hands of Eindhoven entrepreneurs for the first time. This was decided by the mayor and the city council.

This option has been mentioned for years. The city wants to limit itself to its core responsibilities. That does not include the organising of Oranje (surname of Dutch royal family) festivities, but limits itself to public order and safety on Koningsdag.

A foundation, Stichting Koningsdag Eindhoven, has been established to make things happen. Several event organisers and entrepreneurs of the catering industry have been assembled in this group. Together they will submit all applications for all event sites. President of the society will be Ruud Bakker, president of Horeca Nederland in Eindhoven (association for catering entrepreneurs) and owner of an establishment in Dommelstraat.

2017 will be a transition year. Last year there were sixteen different event organisers who did an application, so this will be different now.

The city will stay responsible for public order and safety. In the last couple of years there were hardly any incidents.

The total costs for the city are estimated at about € 300,000.00.
